Four U.S. universities to host technology research centers launched by South Korea

South Korea’s industry ministry has established technology cooperation centers at four U.S. universities to enhance bilateral relations in cutting-edge industries. The Global Industrial Technology Cooperation Centers have been launched at Yale University, Johns Hopkins University, Purdue University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology, as announced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The aim is to initiate joint research and development projects at these centers starting this year in order to secure technologies for new growth engines.

This initiative was unveiled during the Korea-U.S. Advanced Industry and Technology Cooperation Forum, which took place alongside Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun’s visit to Washington for a trilateral meeting with U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Japanese Industry Minister Ken Saito. Minister Ahn emphasized the importance of collaboration with like-minded countries in order to address global crises and challenges.

By establishing these cooperation centers, South Korea aims to establish a robust technology alliance with the U.S. and drive industrial innovation. The ministry’s plan is to expand the number of such centers to 12 by 2027.
