The Asia Pacific Health Security Action Framework (APHSAF) was endorsed by Member States in 2023, in response to the need for health systems that are prepared, resilient, and ready to respond to health security threats, including pandemics. This framework is designed to engage multisectoral actors in health security and reflect the complex nature of public health emergencies. The APHSAF presents six interconnected, multisectoral domains of work that together form a comprehensive, multi-hazard health security system, emphasizing the One Health approach.

The goals of the Framework also support progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and universal health coverage while meeting the responsibilities and obligations of the International Health Regulations (2005). Through the implementation of the APHSAF, countries in the Asia Pacific region can enhance their capacity to respond to public health emergencies effectively and efficiently.

By engaging various sectors and stakeholders in health security, the APHSAF aims to strengthen the overall health system’s ability to prevent, detect, and respond to health security threats. This collaborative approach ensures that countries in the region are better equipped to address a wide range of public health emergencies, while also working towards broader health and development goals. Overall, the APHSAF represents a crucial step towards building more resilient and prepared health systems in the Asia Pacific region.
