France holds early parliamentary elections

Early elections to the National Assembly in France are set to take place on Sunday, June 30. French President Emmanuel Macron made the decision to dissolve the National Assembly and call for early elections on June 9. Polling stations will open at 08:00 local time and generally close at 18:00, although some cities and departments have different opening hours, such as Paris where stations will remain open until 20:00. The results are expected to be known late in the evening or at night.

Voters will elect 577 members of parliament, with an absolute majority requiring 289 seats. If a candidate wins a majority of votes in the first round with a turnout of over 25%, they will secure a seat in parliament. Otherwise, a second round will be held on July 7. Polls indicate that the far-right National Rally party, led by Jordan Bardella, could win the largest number of seats in the French National Assembly, with predictions suggesting they may secure nearly 40% of the seats. The left-wing New Popular Front coalition is expected to take second place, while the Together coalition, including Macron’s Renaissance party and the Republicans party, may come in third.
