When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. This proverb implies that one should make the most out of a difficult situation. Mary and Joe Pachorkowsky of Franklin Township exemplified this by starting their business, Kitty Kat Concessions. Four years ago, they purchased a lemonade cart with the hopes of starting a side business. However, Joe’s work schedule prevented them from using it at the time. Last year, Joe faced medical problems that resulted in a lengthy hospital stay. Realizing that he wouldn’t be able to return to his previous job, they decided to make the best of their situation.
Remembering the lemonade cart they had purchased, Mary and Joe started selling fresh-squeezed lemonade at local festivals and events. As they received feedback and suggestions from customers, they expanded their menu to include orangeade, tomato pie, and homemade cookies. Despite the challenges they faced, Mary finds joy in the interactions with people. She believes that the effort they put into their business is worthwhile and feels blessed in many ways.
The name Kitty Kat Concessions was inspired by Joe’s other venture, his pyrotechnics company called “Pyro Joe.” The decision to name their concession business after their black cats was a homage to them and their connection to Joe’s fireworks business. The logo features a cat holding a sparkler, symbolizing Kitty Kat as Pyro Joe’s alter ego. Joe has gained recognition for his fireworks displays and won the “Best Fireworks Category” in the 2023 Readers Choice competition.
Mary and Joe Pachorkowsky are the driving force behind Kitty Kat Concessions. Despite the initial setbacks they faced, they persevered and found success in their lemonade cart business. Through their hard work and dedication, they have created a unique and memorable experience for their customers at various festivals and events.
