Fugro’s net-zero targets approved by Science Based Targets initiative

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved Fugro’s near- and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets. Fugro’s net-zero target covers all three emission scopes, with the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the value chain by 2050.

Fugro’s commitment to sustainability and decarbonization is highlighted by this validation from the Science Based Targets initiative. The CEO of Fugro, Mark Heine, emphasized the company’s dedication to creating a safe and livable world through aligning their decarbonization efforts with the global warming limit of 1.5°C. The science-based targets set by Fugro help them action their roadmap to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2035 for scopes 1 and 2.

In 2020, Fugro introduced a roadmap to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2035 for scope 1 and 2. The company is actively working on initiatives like rolling out uncrewed vessel fleets and converting vessels to use green methanol. Their near-term targets include reducing absolute emissions by 54.6% by 2033, sourcing renewable electricity, reducing fuel-related emissions, and aligning suppliers’ targets with a science-based methodology.

Looking towards the long-term, Fugro aims to reduce emissions by at least 90% by 2050 across all scopes. The roadmap includes a plan to decrease emission intensity from their vessels by 25% by 2027 and achieve net-zero carbon emission operations for scope 1 and 2 by 2035.
