FujiFilm North America Corp. has requested a federal judge to rule that the image-distortion correction features in its digital cameras do not violate technology patented by a California inventor who sued the company in a separate court case last year. The company claims it has the right to manufacture and sell its products that utilize digital lens aberration correction technology without the need for a license from Optimum Imaging Technologies LLC since the products do not infringe on any patents. The complaint seeking declaratory judgment was filed on May 31 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

Neal Solomon, the founder of Optimum Imaging Technologies, had previously taken legal action against FujiFilm for alleged patent infringement related to the image-distortion correction features in their digital cameras. However, FujiFilm is contesting these claims and is seeking legal clarity on the matter through the new declaratory judgment filed in court. The company argues that its products do not violate any patents held by Optimum Imaging Technologies and should therefore be allowed to continue to operate without interference. The case will now be reviewed by a federal judge in California to determine the validity of FujiFilm’s claims.
