Funding of $550,000 secured for primary care suite at Health center in Lowville

A significant increase in funding is on its way to enhance healthcare services in Lewis County. North Country Family Health Center has secured over $550,000 to broaden its offerings in the village. This funding will be used to construct a new primary care suite in Lowville, a move that has been described as a game-changer by center leaders.

The CEO of North Country Family Health Center, Joey Marie Horton, expressed gratitude for the grant award, stating that it allows them to move forward with phase two of their project. Without this funding, they would have been at a standstill. Phase one involved bringing an older office into compliance with state regulations, while phase two will see the construction of a new primary care suite with four exam rooms.

The grant will also enable the recruitment of two new primary care providers to Lewis County, both of whom are natives of the North Country. This marks a significant development for Lowville Medical Associates, which has been in operation for two decades and has never received a grant of this magnitude before.

Dr. Shereen Palmer, a pediatrician at North Country Family Health Center, emphasized the importance of this funding in expanding their services and maintaining a strong presence in the community for years to come. The investment in rural healthcare in Lewis County has been welcomed by officials, who see it as a crucial step in meeting the healthcare needs of the community.

Construction of the new primary care suite is expected to be completed by the spring of 2025, marking a significant milestone in the improvement of healthcare services in Lewis County. With this funding, North Country Family Health Center is poised to make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of the community for years to come.
