Fundraiser organized by Barstool Sports raises $600,000 for family of slain sheriff’s deputy

Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, announced on Wednesday that a fundraising drive has raised $600,000 for the family of slain Onondaga County Sheriff Lt. Michael Hoosock. Half of the money comes from $200,000 in shirt sales, with an additional $100,000 donation from UFC president and CEO Dana White. Portnoy also contributed $300,000 by matching the donations.

Portnoy expressed his desire to reach $1 million and stated that he would continue to match donations until that goal is achieved. Last year, Portnoy visited Syracuse after the city won a Barstool competition for best bar town. Despite criticizing strip malls, he praised the local bars and gave a positive review to Paladino’s pizza.

Lieutenant Hoosock and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen were tragically killed in a shooting in Salina. The fundraiser initiated by Portnoy is just one of many efforts to support the families of the fallen officers.Various fundraisers have been organized to provide financial assistance to the families during this difficult time.
