Ohio State’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Summer Camp is a unique opportunity for high school students to gain hands-on experience in the healthcare field. The camp, hosted at Ohio State, offers interactive learning experiences in a variety of areas such as respiratory therapy, radiologic sciences, and more. With thirty-four high school students participating, the camp aims to inspire and train future healthcare professionals.

One participant, Prahalyaraksha Sitaram, expressed her surprise at the career opportunities available in the healthcare field. She mentioned that before attending the camp, she was unaware of careers like respiratory therapy and ultrasound. Thanks to the camp, she is now considering a future as a cardiovascular surgeon or biomedical researcher.

Eva George, one of the camp instructors, stressed the importance of sparking students’ interest in healthcare careers, especially with the growing demand for healthcare professionals in the Columbus area. With Intel moving in, the need for qualified healthcare workers is expected to increase, making programs like the Summer Camp essential for preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals.

The camp was a success with thirty-four high school students gaining valuable insights and inspiration for their future careers in healthcare. Plans are already underway to host the camp again next year, providing even more high school students with the opportunity to explore and experience the diverse fields within the healthcare industry.
