Game 2 of the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat got intense as Grant Williams and Jimmy Butler faced off. Williams made a 3-point shot in the fourth quarter and exchanged words with Butler on the court. However, Butler answered back by scoring from contact and the two players got into a heated exchange.
Williams’ appearance in Game 2 marked his first in the series as he did not play in Game 1. Head coach Joe Mazura explained that it was part of their plan to use depth and come up with the best lineup for each game. Williams’ minutes have significantly decreased in the postseason, averaging just under 13 minutes in nine games and being sidelined in five.
The Celtics were leading by 12 points in the fourth quarter, but Butler’s bucket proved to be a turning point. The Heat then went on a 24-9 run to win the game 111-105. Butler had an impressive performance with 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Williams contributed two assists and two rebounds in his nine scoring 26 minutes.
With the loss, the Celtics are now down 2-0 in the series and will face the Heat again in Round 3 on Sunday.
