Georgetown Dollar General Shuts Down Due to Urgent Health Risk from Sewage Backup in Store

The Dollar General store at Georgetown Square in Fort Wayne, Indiana, has been forced to close after a failed inspection by the Allen County Department of Health on June 3. Employees at the store were notified that there was a sewage backup at the location on East State Blvd. The health inspector found that the restroom had flushing issues, resulting in sewage backing up onto the sales floor.

According to the report, the sewage flooded into aisles mainly containing pet food, single-use items, and cleaning supplies. Thankfully, no products were deemed contaminated. The inspector noted human waste on the floors and even spotted a live cockroach in the sewage. Due to these unsanitary conditions, the manager was informed that the facility posed an “imminent health hazard” and had to shut down.

This isn’t the first time this sewage issue has occurred at the Dollar General store, as a similar incident happened back in March. Once the problem is resolved, the store will need to undergo proper disinfection before requesting a follow-up inspection to reopen. As of now, no follow-up inspection has been scheduled.

The Dollar General manager was made aware of the urgent need for closure due to the health hazard, as stated in the report. This incident highlights the importance of maintaining sanitary conditions in retail establishments for the well-being of employees and customers.
