Gia Lai aims to use scientific methods to rehabilitate dipterocarp forests

During a working session with the Minister of Science and Technology, Huynh Thanh Dat, the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee proposed support for research on the scientific basis for restoring and sustainably managing the dipterocarp forest ecosystem. The meeting aimed to exchange experiences on organizing and managing science, technology, and innovation activities to resolve problems and find solutions for economic development in the local society.

Mr. Truong Hai Long, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, acknowledged that Gia Lai province is closely associated with agriculture. Therefore, implementing scientific and technological tasks and topics from application, research, and transfer are aimed at supporting people in farming, growing, and processing.

The province proposed tasks such as researching the scientific basis for the restoration and sustainable management of the dipterocarp forest ecosystem. This ecosystem is home to many large mammals and birds, contributing to maintaining ecological balance and bringing socio-economic benefits to the region.

In recent years, the dipterocarp forest ecosystem has not been exploited properly and scientifically, leading to a decline in its area. Gia Lai province, along with other regions in the Central Highlands, has seen a decrease in the area of these forests, emphasizing the need for effective management and protection.

Gia Lai also made other proposals for excavation, research, conservation consulting, and promoting the value of the An Khe Paleolithic relic system. The province has been implementing various science and technology tasks to improve the quality and competitiveness of key products in agriculture.

Minister Huynh Thanh Dat praised the achievements of Gia Lai province and encouraged continued investment in science, technology, and innovation. He highlighted the importance of focusing resources on research, technological innovation, and the application of high technology in various sectors to address challenges like climate change and promote economic development.
