The Antonio Conte era at Serie A giants Napoli has officially begun, and one of his initial tasks is trying to persuade club captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo to stay at the club. Despite having a contract until 2028, the 30-year-old has expressed his desire to leave Napoli this summer. However, the club has made it clear that they have no intention of selling him.
Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com reports that Conte has already had a lengthy phone conversation with Di Lorenzo to outline his plans for the player in his revamped Napoli team. Despite this discussion, Di Lorenzo seems fixed on a move to Juventus. One of the key reasons for this is said to be the relationship he developed with Juventus Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli during his time at Napoli, where they achieved great success together.
Di Lorenzo’s agent, Mario Giuffredi, is expected to meet with Napoli representatives in the near future to try to find a solution. However, negotiations may not be easy, as both sides appear to be standing firm on their positions. It remains to be seen whether Di Lorenzo will ultimately remain at Napoli or move to Juventus.
