GlobalFoundries purchases Tagore Technology’s GaN technology

GlobalFoundries’ recent acquisition of Tagore Technology will significantly expand their power IP portfolio and provide increased access to GaN IP. This move will allow GlobalFoundries’ customers to develop differentiated products more quickly and efficiently. The acquisition also includes a team of experienced engineers from Tagore who specialize in the development of GaN technology, further enhancing GlobalFoundries’ capabilities in this area.

Niels Anderskouv, chief business officer at GlobalFoundries, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting their customers in their power applications both now and in the future. This acquisition is a strategic step towards accelerating the availability of GaN technology and empowering customers to create innovative power management solutions that will shape the future of industries such as mobility, connectivity, and intelligence.

With the recent award of $1.5 billion in direct funding under the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act, GlobalFoundries is well-positioned to invest in high-volume manufacturing of critical technologies like GaN. By combining their manufacturing capacity with the expertise of the Tagore team, GlobalFoundries aims to enhance the efficiency of AI systems, particularly in edge and IoT devices that require reduced power consumption.
