Google is reintroducing page-based navigation in its search results, moving away from the continuous scrolling feature that was implemented in the mobile search engine in 2021. This change will first be seen on the desktop version of Google. The continuous scrolling feature automatically loads search results from consecutive pages as the user scrolls, eliminating the need for manual navigation to view more results.
However, Google has now decided to remove continuous scrolling, with a spokesperson confirming the change to Search Engine Land. The desktop version will now show a ‘Next’ button to progress through the search results, with a similar ‘More results’ button to be implemented on mobile devices at a later time. This change is aimed at improving the speed at which results are displayed and ensuring that users see what they explicitly request, as it was found that continuous scrolling did not necessarily lead to increased user satisfaction.
Several examples of error messages and website links are displayed in the text, demonstrating various issues or profiles that users may encounter when navigating online. These examples highlight the importance of creating a user-friendly and efficient online experience, which Google is also striving to achieve through its upcoming changes in search result navigation.
