The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, along with Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted, announced that over $88 million will be allocated to support nearly a dozen school districts in Appalachia. The funds are being awarded as part of the Appalachian Community Innovation Centers Program, which aims to establish comprehensive centers for education, health services, and career development in the region.
Governor DeWine highlighted the state’s commitment to serving underserved communities in Appalachia by ensuring access to high-quality education and healthcare resources. The new centers will have a transformative impact on the region and provide support to all Ohioans, regardless of their location.
The funding will go towards establishing four new school-based community wellness, education, and career development centers in Mahoning, Jefferson, Noble, and Brown counties. Additionally, seven existing sites in Belmont, Carroll, Lawrence, Gallia, Perry, Trumbull, and Clermont counties will be renovated or expanded.
These centers will be accessible to anyone in need of assistance, not limited to residents of the school districts receiving the awards. The initiative aims to create a network of support and resources for all Ohioans, contributing to the overall well-being and development of the community.
