The city of Nitro in West Virginia is getting ready to unveil their latest project – the Nitro Sports Complex. On Friday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held, and the grand opening celebration for the complex will take place on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. The city’s spokesman, Joe Stevens, advises that this will also be the opening day for the pool.
Stevens states that the pool is one of the first parts of the $5 million-plus sports complex to be completed since its construction began last year. The only thing left to add to the pool area is the ‘sliders,’ which had been delayed due to supply chain issues but should arrive next month. Nitro High School students will be joining the celebration by serving burgers made by local chefs to the pool’s first guests.
To celebrate the opening of the Nitro Sports Complex and the pool, Park Avenue in front of City Park will be closed this Saturday for a grand event. A stage will be set up at 7 pm, and a fireworks display will begin at 9:30 pm. Stevens is expecting a large crowds to attend. He also expresses his happiness at seeing positive developments happening not only in Nitro, but in other communities across the region.
According to Stevens, the Nitro Sports Complex will have tennis and pickleball courts that are expected to open ahead of schedule, sometime in June. Additionally, the new complex will host its first major tournament in mid-July – the Kanawha County Subway 911 Emergency Responders Tournament.
Stevens is optimistic about the Nitro Sports Complex’s potential for drawing new businesses to the area. He states that the project has generated discussions about the possibilities for new developments in the region, which could benefit numerous communities, such as Charleston, South Charleston, and the Kanawha Metro Valley area.
