The Green Bay Packers recently made an announcement regarding the addition of Richard Ingram to their medical staff for training camp. This move is part of the NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative and was announced by General Manager Brian Gutekunst on Tuesday.
Ingram, a student at Meharry Medical College, specializes in orthopedics. Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, Ingram played outside linebacker/strong safety at Mississippi College, where he majored in biology medical science with a minor in psychology. He was also recognized as a 2022 Nth Dimensions Scholar, an organization that supports underrepresented minorities and women in the field of medicine.
The NFL, in collaboration with the NFL Physicians Society (NFLPS) and the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society (PFATS), launched the league-wide expansion of the NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative in 2022. This initiative provides medical students with the opportunity to complete a clinical rotation with NFL club medical staff. The goal of this program is to increase and diversify the pipeline of students interested in pursuing careers in sports medicine to make a positive impact in the medical field and help diversify NFL club medical staff over time.
