Griffiths, Baggies’ goalkeeper, commits to club with new deal until 2027

Josh Griffiths, the goalkeeper for West Bromwich Albion, has signed a new three-year contract with the Championship club. The England youth international, who was part of last summer’s under-21 training camp, is now committed to the club until the summer of 2027. Born in Hereford, Griffiths, 22, spent the 2023-24 season as Albion’s second choice behind Alex Palmer.

In four out of his six home league appearances with Albion, Griffiths has kept clean sheets, showing his skill and potential as a goalkeeper. His ultimate goal is to become the number one goalkeeper for the team and he is excited about the future with the club. Griffiths praised Palmer for his outstanding performance last season, acknowledging him as one of the best goalkeepers in the league.

Griffiths has had previous loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Lincoln City before being recalled from Portsmouth in January 2023. He made 10 first team appearances and kept 10 clean sheets during that time. However, in the 2023-24 season, he was limited to just three cup games. Albion made it to the Championship play-offs last season but were beaten in the semi-finals by Southampton, who were eventually promoted to the Premier League.
