Emmanuel Macron and Gabriel Attal have chosen a clearly liberal profile to head the ministry responsible for relaunching the real estate sector. The Minister Delegate in charge of Housing, Guillaume Kasbarian, is known for his outspokenness and decisive battles, and is in favor of toughening sanctions for squatting. He has also pushed for administrative simplification measures and looked into the taxation of Airbnb rentals and degradation of co-ownerships. In his role, he will have a lot to do, as the government calls for a “supply shock” and the modification of the SRU law, and plans to entrust the allocation of social housing to mayors for new construction, and aimed to include intermediate housing in the HLM quotas. Kasbarian was also opposed to a proposal to repaint the roofs of homes white to reduce temperatures, claiming it was inapplicable.
