Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an Israeli with an American passport, was abducted on October 7 at the Nova festival during the Hamas attack on Israel. He was seriously wounded, and his family and friends initially believed he was dead. However, Hamas released a video in which Hersh appeared with an injured hand and had to confirm his identity by providing his parents’ dates of birth and their names.
In the video, Hersh criticized the Israeli government and urged his parents to stay strong. Other hostages also criticized the Israeli authorities, particularly Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Hersh was born in the USA and moved to Israel in 2008. His parents received two messages from him after the attack, saying “I love you” and “I miss you,” but they were unable to reach him.
