The Alpena Senior Center will be hosting a Senior Health & Fitness Fair on National Senior Health & Fitness Day, Wednesday, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Senior Center will partner with MyMichigan Health’s Community Education Division and local professionals and educators to provide seniors with health and fitness tips. This will be the first time the Senior Center will host the program.
BJ Sander, program manager at the Alpena Center for the Elderly, expressed excitement about the event, stating, “We’ve always wanted to do it, so this year we’re going to do it.” Sander leads a senior exercise class three times a week, where many seniors have seen great results from attending the class. She believes that regular exercise can improve balance, physical and mental health, and provide opportunities for socializing.
The event is free for anyone interested in participating. Vendor booths will include a variety of health and wellness organizations. Presentations will address topics such as Nutrition, Heat Stroke Prevention, Spiritual Care, Osteoporosis, Fall Risk Prevention, and Inpatient Rehabilitation Services. If you have any questions about the event, you can contact the Senior Center at 989-356-3585.
