Health Inspections Force Closure of Two Restaurants in Central Florida Last Week – Orlando Sentinel

Two Central Florida restaurants in Volusia County were shut down the week of June 16-24, as reported by data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Uncle Chicken’s Cast Iron Kitchen in New Smyrna Beach was one of the restaurants that closed on June 18. Inspectors discovered seven violations, with two of them classified as high priority. Violations included food not being consumed within the required time frame and rodent activity. A follow-up inspection on June 19 revealed four violations, but none were deemed high priority. The restaurant ultimately met inspection standards.

Another restaurant, Sally’s Diner IV LLC in Orange City, was also shut down on June 19 due to 17 violations, six of which were considered high priority. Issues included rodent activity, temperature abuse leading to a stop sale on food, and food coming into contact with an employee’s bare body part. A subsequent inspection on the same day found three violations, none of which were classified as high priority. The restaurant was able to meet inspection standards.

In terms of complaints and warnings in Central Florida, Orange County received the most with 21. Osceola had nine, Volusia had 20, Seminole had seven, Brevard had five, and Lake had seven.
