Health officials in Clark County have announced that two individuals have recovered from West Nile virus. The cases were identified in a man over the age of 60 and another man over 70. One had a non-neuroinvasive form of the virus, while the other had the neuroinvasive form, but both have since recovered.
The Southern Nevada Health District reported the highest level of mosquito activity so far this season. Over 200 mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile virus, with additional pools testing positive for the virus that causes St. Louis encephalitis.
To protect themselves, health officials offered tips to Clark County residents. They advised eliminating standing water around homes, as mosquitoes breed in small containers collecting water. They also recommended using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and reporting mosquito activity to the Health District’s surveillance program.
Residents are encouraged to report any areas of standing water, as well as any unusual mosquito activity. By taking these precautions, individuals can help reduce the risk of contracting mosquito-borne illnesses in the area.
