House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Subcommittee on Health Chair Brett Guthrie (R-KY) announced a subcommittee hearing titled “Checking-In on CMMI: Assessing the Transition to Value-Based Care” in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the hearing is to assess the progress of the CMS Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) in transitioning to value-based care.

The Chairs emphasized the importance of government programs keeping pace with medical innovation to improve and extend life. CMMI, created over a decade ago with the goal of saving taxpayer dollars and improving health outcomes for patients, has not yet shown significant successful outcomes. The hearing will provide Members with the opportunity to hear from the head of CMMI, Elizabeth Fowler, about the challenges faced in achieving their mission and to consider whether Congress needs to provide clearer direction or take other steps to ensure beneficiaries are best served.

The Subcommittee on Health hearing titled “Checking-In on CMMI: Assessing the Transition to Value-Based Care” is scheduled for Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET in the 2123 Rayburn House Office Building. Elizabeth Fowler, Ph.D, J.D., Deputy Administrator and Director of CMMI at CMS, will be the witness at the hearing, which will be open to the public and press and live streamed online at https://energycommerce.house.gov/.
