Heat Advisory Issued by Sonoma County Health Officer

County of Sonoma Health Officer Dr. Tanya Phares has issued a Heat Advisory in response to the National Weather Service’s Excessive Heat Warning for much of the county from Tuesday morning, July 2 through Friday evening, July 5. An extreme heat event is an extended period of intense heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees. In extremely hot conditions, evaporation slows down and the body has to work harder to maintain a normal temperature, which can be dangerous and even fatal.

To prepare for extreme heat, it is important to know where to find cooling centers, how to deal with power outages, and more. For more information on how to stay safe in hot weather, visit the Extreme Heat page. Cooling centers will be available at various locations throughout the county during the heat advisory period.

COTS Mary Isaak Center in Petaluma will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Rohnert Park Community Center will be open Tuesday through Wednesday and Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Finley Community Center in Santa Rosa will be open Tuesday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Senior Recreation Center Cooling Safe Haven in Windsor will be open Tuesday to Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. And the Healdsburg Senior Center will be open Tuesday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Stay safe and stay cool during this period of high heat.
