HERO Sports: Three Rattlers Stand Out as SWAC’s Top Returners in Their Position

The Celebration Bowl Champions are aiming to defend their title, and they have three standout returning players in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). HERO Sports has ranked Kendall Bohler, James Ash, and Ashton Grable as the best in their respective positions.

Bohler earned the title of HERO Sports’ best FCS returning cornerback, ranking seventh nationally and first in the SWAC. In the 2023 season, Bohler recorded 39 tackles, 14 pass breakups, and an interception in the Celebration Bowl. He received several accolades, including All-SWAC First Team, BOXTOROW All-American, Aeneas Williams Award Finalist, Bruce Feldman Freak List member, and recognition on the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List.

Ash was named the best FCS returning defensive tackle by HERO Sports, ranking 19th nationally and first in the SWAC. In 2023, Ash tallied 32 tackles, six tackles for loss, and an interception. He was honored with a spot on Phil Steele’s All-SWAC Fourth Team.

Grable was recognized as HERO Sports’ best returning SWAC interior offensive lineman. Grable showcased his versatility by starting all 11 games, seven at left tackle and four at right guard. He allowed only two sacks on 370 pass-blocking attempts and delivered strong performances with 22 ‘dominator blocks,’ 11 knockdown blocks, and two cut blocks. Grable earned a PFF grade of 70.1 in pass protection, with three games graded over 85.0. He was a key asset in the Rattlers’ offensive line in 2023 and was named to the All-SWAC Second Team.
