In today’s edition of Rotoworld’s Pickups of the Day, we have two pitching prospects to keep an eye on. First up is Mason Miller of the Oakland Athletics. Miller, who is available in 88 percent of Yahoo leagues, is set to pitch against the Houston Astros on Monday. While it may seem like a tough matchup, Miller has shown the potential to rack up strikeouts. He recently returned to the majors after overcoming a right elbow injury and put on an impressive performance, striking out three batters over two perfect frames. With some workload limitations expected, there is some risk involved, but Miller’s talent makes him a worthy addition to fantasy rosters.
Next is Gavin Stone of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who is available in 98 percent of Yahoo leagues. Stone has struggled in his limited big league outings this season, but he has shown improvement in Triple-A games. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in his last five appearances and has recorded at least seven strikeouts in four of those outings. Stone has also made some adjustments to his pitching repertoire, adding a sinker and changing his slider into more of a cutter. With Clayton Kershaw’s start being pushed back, Stone is set to start against the San Diego Padres, who have a solid lineup. While he may be a risky option in shallow leagues, fantasy managers in deeper leagues could find value in taking a chance on Stone.
