After the 2024 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos made a move by signing undrafted free agent cornerback Quinton Newsome. Newsome, who stands at 6-2 and weighs 185 pounds, joins the Broncos after a successful college career at the University of Nebraska. During his time with the Cornhuskers, Newsome played in 53 games and started 35 of them from 2019 to 2023.

Throughout his college career, Newsome accumulated 148 tackles, including 94 solo tackles and 55 assisted tackles. He also recorded seven tackles for loss, three sacks, 18 passes defensed, and one interception. Newsome’s interception came during the 2023 season when the Cornhuskers played against Illinois. His most productive season was in 2022 when he achieved career-highs in multiple categories, including tackles for loss, sacks, passes defensed, and forced fumbles.

While Newsome may not immediately step into a starting role, there is a history of undrafted free agents making an impact at cornerback for the Broncos. One such example is the team’s starting nickel cornerback, Ja’Quan McMillian. Despite only starting one game in 2022, McMillian caught the attention of Denver’s coaching staff and has since become a key member of the Broncos’ secondary.

Newsome faces an uphill battle to secure a spot on the 53-man roster, but he will have the opportunity to showcase his skills during the summer. If he doesn’t make the active roster, Newsome could potentially land a spot on the practice squad, mirroring McMillian’s path to success in the NFL. It will be exciting to see how Newsome’s journey with the Broncos unfolds as he looks to make his mark in the league.
