How do chat filters work on WhatsApp?

WhatsApp, the popular messaging app from Meta, has introduced a significant innovation to improve the organization and accessibility of the user interface. Recently, the app launched “chat filters,” a feature that splits the home screen into three distinct sections: All, Unread, and Groups. This update aims to make it easier for users to manage and access conversations.

Chat filters are designed to divide chat types from one another, making it easier to access and keeping the interface tidier. The three categories introduced are designed to help especially small businesses, startups, and interaction-based businesses, such as travel groups, optimize customer engagement without the need for a new phone or number.

The three sections are:
1. Everyone: In this section, users will find all conversations, both individual and group, sorted starting from the most recent.
2. Unread: All unread messages will be visible here, again sorted by the most recent, whether they are individual or group chats.
3. Groups: This section is dedicated exclusively to group conversations, read and unread, organized by the time of the last message.

A Meta spokesperson commented: “We believe filters will make it easier for people to stay organized and find the most important conversations, helping them navigate messages more effectively.” To access these new features, users will need to update their WhatsApp app to the latest version available. The upgrade is not immediate for everyone, and may appear in a few days if you fail to upgrade on the first try.
