How to recognize initial distress symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder

Identifying symptoms of distress, initial intervention, and correct mediation of reality are important factors that contribute to mental well-being and preventing symptoms from developing into post-traumatic stress disorder. Changes in sleeping and eating habits, increased fatigue, difficulty falling asleep, and other signs can indicate a decline in mental state. It is crucial to pay attention to these warning signs before they escalate.

Many Israelis have reported a worsening of their mental state since the beginning of the war, highlighting the significant impact of the current situation on mental health. Traumatic events can lead to nightmares, fear of sleep, and disrupted eating habits, all of which are signs that should not be ignored. Hyperreactivity, difficulty concentrating, and feelings of sadness and lack of motivation may also indicate underlying mental distress that needs to be addressed.

Physical symptoms can also manifest as a result of emotional stress, as mental strain can weaken the immune system and other bodily functions. Panic attacks may occur suddenly and without warning, causing severe physical sensations and feelings of fear and panic. It is important to seek help when distress levels become overwhelming and interfere with daily life.

Mental health nurses play a crucial role in providing support and counseling to individuals experiencing stress and mental distress. Seeking help from a professional can help manage symptoms and promote overall well-being. Tsefnat Norman, a district coordinator and nurse, emphasizes the importance of addressing mental health concerns and seeking help when needed.
