On Friday night, the Humboldt baseball team was flawless in their North Central Conference game against St Edmund. The Wildcats won 16-1 in four innings, scoring four runs in the first inning and seven more in the third. The win extended the team’s winning streak to eight games and brought their record to 12-2 overall and 5-0 in the NCC. In contrast, the Gaels struggled and committed seven errors, allowing six earned runs. Head coach Mike Sharratt noted that when one aspect of the game doesn’t work out, especially on the road, a team can’t give themselves a chance.
The Wildcats only needed a few hits to secure their victory, with Evan Hatcher leading the team with two hits and two runs. In total, the team had eight hits, all singles. Joshua Tahm scored three runs, while Trevor Beach, Corey Dettman, Jayden Gargano, and Isaiah Busick each scored twice. Gargano struck out four and allowed only one earned run.
The Gaels will focus on their game against Clarion Goldfield/Dowse at the Field of Dreams complex at 7 pm. Despite wanting to make the experience positive for the players and get more kids involved in the game, Sharratt emphasized the importance of winning and getting back on track. Meanwhile, Humboldt will be in Alden, Iowa Falls on Monday.
In summary, the Humboldt baseball team played flawlessly against St Edmund on Friday night, winning 16-1 in four innings. The win extended their winning streak to eight games, with the team’s record improving to 12-2 overall and 5-0 in the NCC.
