Hungarian Varga has been discharged from the hospital and sent home

After helping Hungary finish third in Group A, Barnabas Varga is now recovering from a serious injury suffered at Euro 2024. The 29-year-old forward fractured his cheekbone in a collision with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn during a match in Stuttgart. Varga underwent successful surgery in a German hospital and has been released to continue his recovery at home in Hungary.

In a message posted on Ferencvaros’ website, Varga expressed his gratitude for the support he has received and mentioned that he is now looking forward to a few weeks of rest before focusing on his recovery. He reassured fans that he is not nervous about the incident and is determined to make a full recovery.

The Hungarian Football Federation confirmed that Varga has been discharged from the hospital in Stuttgart and is now recovering at home. The match in which Varga sustained his injury was delayed for almost seven minutes as he received treatment on the field. Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai was visibly upset during this time and later criticized the response time of the medical staff.

Despite claims of a delay in medical treatment, Uefa stated that there was no delay in assisting Varga on the pitch. Hungary’s coach, Marco Rossi, along with his coaching staff and a teammate, visited Varga in the hospital the day after the incident to show their support. Varga’s recovery process will now continue as he focuses on regaining his fitness and returning to the pitch.
