The ICC has taken action in response to a complaint from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by relocating the Pakistan cricket team to a hotel closer to the match venue in New York for their upcoming T20 World Cup fixtures. Initially, the team was staying in a hotel that was a 90-minute drive from the stadium, causing concerns for the PCB.
Following a formal complaint from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the ICC arranged for the team to be moved to a hotel only a five-minute drive from the purpose-built stadium on Long Island in Westbury, New York. This new accommodation significantly reduces travel time, making it more convenient for the team to prepare for their matches, including a high-stakes game against arch-rivals India.
In contrast, the Indian cricket team, also playing in New York, is staying in a hotel that is just a 10-minute drive from the stadium and has already won their first match at the venue. The Sri Lankan team, on the other hand, struggled in their first match against South Africa and expressed concerns about the long drive to the stadium from their designated hotel.
After their opening Group A game against co-hosts United States in Dallas on Thursday, the Pakistan team will travel to New York. The details of the PCB’s complaint and the team’s relocation were shared by an anonymous source from the PCB who spoke to The Associated Press under the condition of anonymity due to lack of authorization.
The relocation of the Pakistan team demonstrates the ICC’s responsiveness to concerns raised by participating teams, ensuring better conditions and reducing travel-related stress during the T20 World Cup.
