If Von der Leyen fails to expand her majority, she is in danger

If Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, wants to secure re-election, she must broaden her majority by engaging with the various political “groups” instead of trying to gather votes individually. Bas Eickhout, the co-president of the Greens/EFA group, emphasized this during a conference of the presidents of the political groups of the European Parliament in Brussels, with just over two weeks left until the vote in Strasbourg. Von der Leyen needs at least 361 votes for re-election, and the current majority of EPP, Socialists, and Liberals may not be enough given the presence of dissenting voices. The Greens have expressed their willingness to support von der Leyen if she reaches out to them.
