IKEA introduces ‘The Co-Worker Game’ on Roblox: virtual job experience

The Swedish furniture giant, IKEA, is gearing up to transform the work experience with the upcoming launch of “The Co-Worker Game” on Roblox on June 24. This groundbreaking initiative not only represents IKEA’s debut in mainstream gaming but also introduces a new virtual career concept within its digital universe.

In this game, players will be immersed in the IKEA philosophy, where non-linear career paths and cross-departmental movement are standard. The aim is to provide a realistic simulation of the IKEA work environment, allowing players to try out different tasks, develop professionally within the game, and progress just as they would in real life.

With only 5 days left until June 16, 2024, IKEA will be accepting the final valid applications for 10 paid positions within the game. Selected candidates will have the chance to assist customers, hone their skills, and advance through the ranks by exploring different departments and taking on additional responsibilities. Virtual interviews for successful applicants will be conducted between June 14 and 18, 2024, and each paid player will receive an hourly wage based on IKEA’s standard rates.

Aside from the paid roles, “The Co-Worker Game” also offers all players the opportunity to explore the virtual IKEA world freely. Users can visit the renowned Swedish food market and IKEA bistro, serve the iconic meatballs, or browse various exhibition rooms while organizing space using IKEA products. This not only enhances the gaming experience but also enables players to unlock exclusive user-generated content (UGC).

Darren Taylor, Country People and Culture Manager for IKEA UK and Ireland, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “We’re excited to introduce paid roles on Roblox to showcase how we approach careers differently and bring our unique career philosophy to life. At IKEA, there are no predefined career paths. Our people can change roles, transition between departments, and advance in any direction they choose, both in-game and in real life.”
