IMF and World Bank moving forward with their annual meeting scheduled in Morocco for October – Source

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has decided to hold its annual general meeting in Morocco despite recent earthquakes that claimed more than 2,900 lives worldwide. The decision was made on Monday at the request of senior officials from the IMF and World Bank. Moroccan authorities had been pressuring the world body to proceed with the Oct. 9-15 rally in Marrakech, just 45 miles from the site of the Sept. 8 earthquake. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva announced that she would make a decision after a thorough review of Morocco’s ability to host the meeting. The meeting, which was originally planned for Marrakech, a popular tourist hub, will now be relocated to another location. It is unclear at this time whether the meeting will be scaled back in any way.
