The International Monetary Fund team has started meetings in Kyiv with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities and other partners to address ongoing support, according to Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform. On Feb. 12, the IMF Resident Representative Vagram Stepanyan announced that the team, headed by Uma Ramakrishnan, Deputy Director of the IMF’s European Department, had begun meetings with Ukrainian authorities and other partners in Kyiv. The discussions taking place will center on the economic policy objectives of the Ukrainian authorities and the challenges facing the Ukrainian economy.

In addition, the IMF team will participate on Feb. 13 in the inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee of the Ukraine Capacity Building Fund, an initiative under IMF patronage. Participants in the gathering will include Ukrainian authorities, development partners, and IMF staff, who will come together to discuss priorities for increasing Ukraine’s capacity and the IMF’s support for this essential task.

Following these discussions, on Feb. 17, an IMF mission led by Gavin Gray will start talks with Ukrainian authorities in Warsaw as part of the third review of the IMF-supported Extended Fund Facility. Back in December 2023, Ukraine had received the third tranche of funding worth around $900 million from the IMF under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program. The IMF had previously revealed the amount of funding Ukraine requires in 2024.
