Improving Cardiovascular Health with Orange Peels and FDA Endorses Net-Zero Technology

Research led by the University of Florida suggests that orange peels could play a role in improving cardiovascular health. Recent studies have shown a connection between gut bacteria and the development of cardiovascular disease. With the help of a $500,000 USDA grant, Yu Wang and her team investigated the potential of orange peel extracts, which are rich in beneficial phytochemicals, to reduce TMAO production and help predict future cardiovascular disease.

The FDA’s approval of Elanco’s Bovaer is seen as a significant step towards achieving a net-zero future, according to the National Milk Producers Federation. Technologies like Bovaer that reduce enteric emissions can help U.S. farmers participate in voluntary sustainability initiatives and be rewarded for their efforts. NMPF President Gregg Doud believes that innovations like Bovaer will allow American dairy farmers to stay competitive globally and continue leading in sustainable dairy production.

The U.S. Meat Export Federation recently concluded its spring conference with a focus on building international demand for underutilized beef and pork cuts in the red meat industry. Jessica Spreitzer, USMEF Director of Trade Analysis, discussed strategies to drive demand for cuts like pork loin and beef rounds. She pointed out that exports of loin cuts now make up about 20% of U.S. production, double what it was five years ago.
