Microsoft is set to launch its mobile game store in July to directly compete with Apple and Google. The store will offer a range of Microsoft titles, with plans to later expand to include third-party games. This move follows the company’s earlier announcement in February 2020 of its intention to create its own mobile applications and games store, in anticipation of European regulations that have since materialized in the Digital Markets Law.

The new store will be web-based, allowing users to access it from any device. This was announced by Sarah Bond, the president of Xbox, during her speech at the Bloomberg Technology Summit. Unlike traditional mobile app stores, Microsoft’s store is not restricted by closed ecosystems, making it accessible to all users globally. The store aims to offer cross-play capabilities across consoles, computers, and mobile devices, starting with Microsoft’s own titles and later incorporating third-party games. The launch is scheduled for July.
