Yahoo Sports NBA draft analyst Krysten Peek has provided insight into the latest 2024 NBA mock draft, with the draft week finally arriving. The top pick remains uncertain for the Atlanta Hawks, with Zachary Ricer or Donovan Clinton being potential candidates. However, the rest of the top five picks are beginning to solidify.

According to Yahoo Sports’ mock draft, the top player projected to go number one is French Wing Zachary Ricer. The 6’8″ 19-year-old showcased his pro upside and versatility during a recent workout with the Hawks, demonstrating his ability to guard multiple positions on defense and contribute offensively beyond just being a catch-and-shoot threat.

At number two, the Washington Wizards are likely to select 7’1″ center Alex Star, who has only worked out for them and refused to meet with the Hawks. Star’s ability to stretch the floor and protect the rim make him a strong pick for the Wizards.

Kentucky guard Reed Shepherd is projected to go number three to the Houston Rockets. Shepherd’s reliable shooting from beyond the arc and high basketball IQ make him a valuable addition to the Rockets’ backcourt alongside veterans like John Wall and Jalen Green.

At number four, UConn guard Stefan Castle is expected to be selected by the San Antonio Spurs. Castle’s defensive prowess and upside as a scorer and playmaker make him a good fit to support star player Wimba Yama and anchor the backcourt defense for the Spurs.

Rounding out the top five picks is UConn center Donovan Clinton, who is projected to go to the Detroit Pistons. Clinton’s ability to dominate in the paint and play alongside Jayn Duran could give the Pistons a strong frontcourt presence.

With the NBA draft scheduled for June 26th and 27th, basketball fans can stay updated on all the latest draft buzz leading up to the big night by following Yahoo Sports.
