Seattle Mariners Double-A infielder Hogan Windish had an exceptional night at the plate on Tuesday for the Arkansas Travelers against the Springfield Cardinals, the Double-A affiliate of St. Louis. Windish went 4 for 4, hitting four home runs and walking once to drive in nine runs in a 9-4 victory. He hit a grand slam in the third inning, followed by two two-run shots in the fifth and seventh innings, and a solo blast in the ninth. Despite coming just short of hitting for the “home-run cycle,” Windish’s performance was outstanding.

The MLB record for most home runs in a single game is four, achieved on 16 occasions, with the all-time pro record being eight, although that mark is disputed. Only five players have hit five home runs in a game, with the most recent being Parker DePasquale in 2023. Windish’s unexpected offensive outburst was a surprising feat for the 25-year-old seventh-round pick from UNC Greensboro in 2022, who had struggled with a .205 batting average in the season prior to this game, with three home runs and 19 RBIs. For his career, he had hit .263 with 27 home runs in 196 games.

Despite his previous struggles, Windish’s performance on this night will be remembered as one of the best offensive games in recent memory.
