If the USA had managed to score around 130 runs, the challenge for their opponents would have been even more difficult. India once again owed their success to their bowling attack. Arshdeep took the vital wicket of USA opener Shayan Jahangir with a brilliant delivery from the first ball of the match, and later got Andries Gous out with a silly shot.
Aaron Jones has been the standout batsman for the USA in this tournament, playing crucial roles in victories over Canada and Pakistan. However, playing in conditions with more bounce and smaller boundaries in Texas, Jones fell for 11 after being deceived by a short ball from Mohammed Siraj. Despite this setback, Nitish Kumar provided some momentum in the middle overs with a massive six off Hardik followed by a beautiful straight drive before getting caught by Siraj in the deep.
Corey Anderson briefly added some lower-order runs by skillfully scoring against Jasprit Bumrah. However, the USA’s bowling attack, although trying their best, couldn’t defend the total. They also regretted the decision to give India five penalty runs in the 15th over for slow over rate.
Despite the loss, the USA still has a chance to progress to the Super 8s and continue their impressive tournament performance.
