In Westbury, N.Y., Captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose for India to bowl first against Ireland in their opening match at the Twenty20 World Cup on Wednesday. India has selected four pacers along with allrounder Hardik Pandya, as well as two left-arm spin allrounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Virat Kohli will open the innings with Sharma after Yashasvi Jaiswal was left out, and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will bat at number three. On the other hand, Ireland has decided to go with three seamers and two spinners.

The match is being played at Nassau County Stadium, where India scored 182 against Bangladesh in a warmup game on Saturday. This pitch has been more favorable to batters compared to the one South Africa and Sri Lanka played on earlier in the week. Although there is cloud cover, no rain is expected during the match.

The lineups for the two teams are as follows: India – Rohit Sharma (captain), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj. Ireland – Paul Stirling (captain), Andrew Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker, Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Joshua Little, Benjamin White.
