India’s incredible run at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 came to an end with a six-wicket defeat to Australia in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Australia’s Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne’s 192-run partnership denied India a third World Cup title, despite the promising position India had when Australia were at 47/3 while chasing 240.
Following the heartbreak, India’s sporting icons such as Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, and Abhinav Bindra expressed their gratitude towards the Indian cricket team for their exceptional performances throughout the 45-day tournament. On Instagram, Kapil Dev offered words of encouragement to the present Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, acknowledging his talent and success.
India entered the final with 10 consecutive wins and saw Virat Kohli end as the top scorer at the 2023 ODI World Cup with 765 runs, followed by Rohit Sharma with 597 runs. Additionally, Mohammed Shami was the top wicket-taker with 24 wickets in the tournament.
Sachin Tendulkar, who was the player of the tournament in the 2003 World Cup when India lost to Australia in the final, expressed empathy for the players after the defeat. He emphasized that while losses are a part of the sport, it’s important to remember that the team had given their all throughout the tournament.
