Located just off I-85 in China Grove, Rowan County is looking towards the future with the development of the Macy’s distribution center, which is expected to bring around 2,000 jobs to the area. This project is seen as a representation of the positive changes taking place in Rowan County, according to Rowan County Commissioner, Greg Edds.

In addition to the Macy’s distribution center, ground has been broken on a large RV dealership nearby, and plans have been announced for another facility by Amrep Manufacturing, which will add 200 jobs to the county. Edds highlights the shift towards manufacturing and higher-paying jobs, moving away from the past when Cannon Mills closed, leading to significant job losses in the area.

County officials are determined to avoid a repeat of past economic downturns and have taken unconventional steps to attract businesses back to Rowan County. Large parcels of land were given away to entice companies to relocate to the area, which has proven successful in revitalizing the local economy. The completion of construction on I-85 has also improved transportation and connectivity between Rowan County and Charlotte.

With steady population growth and new housing developments underway, Rowan County is experiencing a resurgence in economic activity. The construction of 4,800 new homes, including in East Spencer, reflects a renewed sense of community involvement and growth in the region. The county is hopeful that these development projects will continue to attract businesses and residents, creating a brighter future for Rowan County.
