A small World War II-era plane crashed shortly after departing from Chino Airport, resulting in the death of two individuals onboard. The twin-engine Lockheed 12A crashed around 12:35 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. When crews arrived at the scene, they found the plane off the runway.

A spokesperson for the Chino Valley Fire District confirmed that there were two fatalities in the incident. No other individuals were onboard the plane, and no one on the ground was injured. The identities of the deceased individuals have not been released.

The two men who were killed in the crash were reportedly part of a Father’s Day event at the Yanks Air Museum, according to a witness. The witness described the crash in detail, noting that the plane took a sharp left turn, descended, and then crashed, causing an immediate explosion upon impact.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown, and both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be conducting an investigation. An NTSB investigator is expected to arrive at the scene on Sunday to document the crash site and examine the aircraft. The plane will then be recovered and taken to a secure facility for further evaluation.
