Apple has recently announced the new features that will be included in the upcoming version of its operating systems. Among these updates is iOS 18, the operating system dedicated to smartphones, which will introduce new customization capabilities for icons and widgets, as well as enhanced privacy features to block and hide installed services on the device.
During the World Developers Conference (WWDC) of 2024, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook kicked off the keynote presentation to unveil the latest software updates that the company has been working on. The event highlighted the new features of iOS 18 for smartphones, iPadOS 18 for tablets, and MacOS Sequoia for Mac computers, as well as updates for Apple Vision Pro and Apple TVs with tvOS.
iOS 18 will bring a fresh look to applications, including the ability for apps to stand out from the background in dark mode. Users will also be able to colorize icons to match the background image or make them stand out. The App Control Center will feature continuous swipe navigation, making it easier for users to access important controls for third-party apps.
The new version of iOS gives users more control over their devices with features like ‘Locked Apps’ that require a password or FaceID for access, and ‘Hidden Apps’ which allow users to hide selected applications in an external folder. Updates to the Messages app include new ways to express emotions and stay connected, while the Mail inbox now offers improved message sorting features.
The Photos application in iOS 18 has been redesigned to improve image organization, making it easier for users to find and enjoy their photos. The new Calculator function in iPadOS 18 has been optimized for large screens and includes features like math notes with support for variables and graphs. MacOS Sequoia introduces iPhone mirroring, allowing users to interact with their iPhone applications on their Mac.
Safari in MacOS Sequoia now includes machine learning capabilities to extract key information from web pages, making it easier for users to find relevant content. The operating system also includes a new Passwords application for organizing credentials and security codes across devices. Beta versions of these operating systems are now available for testing, with official releases scheduled for the fall. Additionally, Apple Intelligence, a new personal intelligence system that combines generative models with personal context, will be integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and MacOS Sequoia to provide a tailored user experience.
