Kellie Harrington and Aidan Walsh, both Tokyo Olympic medallists, have been selected as part of the 10 fighters representing Team Ireland at the Paris Olympics. The competition will take place from July 27th to August 10th, with all female categories being represented by Irish boxers. The preliminary rounds will be held at Arena Paris Nord, while the semi-finals and finals will take place at the Rolland Garros Stadium.
Harrington expressed her excitement for her second Olympic Games, noting that the presence of a crowd and the noise it brings will be a significant difference from the previous Olympics in Tokyo. She is proud to be a part of history, as this will mark the 100th year that Team Ireland has participated in the Olympic Games. Joining her in Paris will be Aidan Walsh, along with his sister Michaela and Jude Gallagher from Newtownstewart.
The rest of the boxing team representing Ireland in Paris includes Aoife O’Rourke, Daina Moorehouse, Dean Clancy, Grainne Walsh, Jennifer Lehane, Jack Marley, and Michaela Walsh. This diverse team will be looking to make their mark at the Paris Olympics and continue Ireland’s long history of success in boxing.
