The introduction of ChatGPT in November 2022 captivated the world, with OpenAI, the company behind it, gaining significant attention in the business world. However, big tech players like Nvidia and Microsoft are now in the spotlight, competing to become the world’s most valuable company. Nvidia, known for its accelerator chips used in generative AI, is facing off against Microsoft, a tech giant with a long-standing presence in the industry. Both companies are investing in a variety of startups to enhance their positions in the market, all while being closely monitored by antitrust agencies due to concerns about their market dominance.

While regulatory authorities have faced criticism for overreaching in their efforts to regulate big tech companies, the behavior of Silicon Valley incumbents has also been called into question. The antitrust authorities seem to be taking a proactive approach, moving swiftly to investigate potential anticompetitive practices. Compared to historical cases that took decades to resolve, current investigations are progressing at a faster pace. For example, the FTC’s battle with Meta over Facebook’s acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp, made years ago, is ongoing, highlighting a more rapid response from authorities in addressing antitrust concerns.
